JMS Continues MLK Celebration

Martin Luther King Day was celebrated throughout the week at Jones Middle School. Friday’s quote and messaging are below. And don’t forget – if you are looking for more opportunities to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, head to the Upper Arlington Library for more ideas.

FRIDAY: “Everybody can be great because everybody can serve….You only need a heart full of grace.” 2/4/1968, Martin Luther King, Jr.’s sermon, “The Drum Major Instinct”

Martin Luther King, Jr. became a minister because he said he felt an “inner urge” calling him to “serve humanity.” It is because of his great service to humanity through his work to achieve civil rights for all people that we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in January, close to his birthday. To honor his legacy, the day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all people to volunteer to improve their communities.
